Sant Namdev and the Dog (संत नामदेव और कुत्ते में प्रभु)

A well-known folk tale of Sant Namdev, who saw God in every creature.

Sant Namdev was a well-known saint of Maharashtra and an exclusive devotee of Lord Vitthal. It is said he saw the Lord in every living being.

One day, as he had just sat down to eat the rotis he had made, a dog came, snatched a roti and ran off. Namdev ran after him with a bowl of ghee, calling, “Lord, do not eat the dry roti, let me put ghee on it.”

People were astonished at the sight. The dog stopped and let him spread the ghee on the roti. The folk tale says Namdev beheld the Lord in that form.
