The Sparrow and the Monkeys (चिड़िया और बंदर)

A Panchatantra-style tale showing that advice should be given only to one who knows how to listen.

A sparrow had a lovely nest in a leafy tree. It was the rainy season. Under the same tree some monkeys were shivering with cold in the rain.

Seeing them, the sparrow said, “Brothers, you have hands and feet. You too can build a small home for yourselves. I am tiny, yet I build a nest by gathering twigs.”

The monkeys took offence. They said, “This tiny bird is going to teach us!” and in anger they climbed the tree and tore her nest apart.

The sparrow’s home lay scattered. Sad, she wondered whom she had given advice to.

🪔 Moral
Give advice only to someone ready to understand and follow it. Preaching to everyone can even do harm.
