Traditional story (retold)
Part 1: The City of Bhogipur
In ancient times King Pundarika ruled in the city of Bhogipur. In his court lived a Gandharva named Lalit and his wife Lalita, who had great love for each other.
Part 2: The Curse
Once, while singing in the court, Lalit's attention drifted to his wife and his tune went wrong. In anger the king cursed him to become a demon. He began to wander the forests in a terrible form.
Part 3: Freedom
Grieved by her husband's suffering, Lalita went to Sage Shringi. The sage told her to keep the vrat of Chaitra Shukla Ekadashi. Lalita kept the vrat and offered its merit to her husband. Lalit was freed from the curse. From that time the importance of Kamada Ekadashi is recognised.
Thus ends the complete Kamada Ekadashi Katha
