The Hen That Laid Golden Eggs (सोने के अंडे देने वाली मुर्गी)

The story of a farmer who lost his income to greed, showing the value of contentment and patience.

A poor farmer had a hen. One morning he found that she had laid a golden egg. He was astonished. He sold the egg in the market and got a good price.

From then on the hen laid one golden egg every day. In a few days the farmer became well off. But as his wealth grew, so did his greed.

One day he thought, “Why wait for one egg a day? She must have lots of golden eggs inside her. Why not take them all at once?”

He killed the hen, but found nothing inside. He had neither eggs nor hen. The farmer sat holding his head and wept, but nothing could be done now.
